Your Treatment Schedule

What happens during your first treatment?

Your first session will include a consultation, followed by a treatment. During the consultation, I will take your full medical history. I will also ask you about your main presenting complaint, i.e. your current symptoms, daily difficulties, etc., as well as questions relating to your diet, sleeping patterns and any other issues in your life that are troubling you. I view your sessions with me as an important time for you to be yourself. I will also conduct a physical examination, where I will take your blood pressure, feel the pulses on each of your wrists and, where appropriate, review your body structure, as obtaining this information will assist in determining your diagnosis and individual treatment plan. It may also be necessary for me to consider whether there may be other ways in which I could help you to help yourself, which could include dietary or exercise programmes. Your first Acupuncture treatment will be focused on treating the areas of the body that are in most need of attention and will help to promote a general sense of wellbeing. To achieve this, needles will be placed in different areas of the body, as well as in those areas where you may be experiencing pain or discomfort.

What happens in your ongoing treatments?

Subsequent Acupuncture treatments will include a discussion of the progress you have made since your previous treatment. A herb called ‘Moxa’ will be used during your treatment sessions; this is an oriental herb that is rolled into cones and placed on Acupuncture points on the body until you feel it getting hot. It is a painless treatment, which is very nourishing and warming. It is used to stimulate the blood and qi (pronounced ‘chee’). As your treatment sessions progress, I will be selecting Acupuncture points on the body with a view to addressing the root cause of your symptoms, focusing on balancing mind, body and spirit. I expect you to notice some changes in yourself initially, which may be unrelated to your presenting complaint, e.g. an increase in energy levels, improvement in sleeping patterns, etc.; however, treatment outcomes may vary depending on the duration and severity of your presenting complaint.

When will I see an improvement?

Most people will notice an improvement following the first treatment; however, for some, it can take 2-3 sessions, as improvement is more gradual. The length of time it takes to treat a condition varies, based on the individual's response and how long they may have had their condition for.

How many treatments will I need?

The frequency and length of treatments will depend on your individual condition. A typical course of treatments comprises initially of four weekly visits followed then by fortnightly visits intervals, proceeding to top up treatments to maintain good health every 4-6 weeks or longer after that.
